” Enhanced Interrogations” Term Coined in 1937 By The Gestapo

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Excerpt below, from Democratic Underground Website concerning the origins of the oft used term “Enhanced Interrogations”,

Reminder: “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” was originally a term coined by the Gestapo

“Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” was originally a term coined by the (wait for it) Gestapo. Something to consider when you hear someone (typically a Republican politician) using that term as a substitute for torture.

The phrase “Verschärfte Vernehmung” is German for “enhanced interrogation”. Other translations include “intensified interrogation” or “sharpened interrogation”. It’s a phrase that appears to have been concocted in 1937, to describe a form of torture that would leave no marks, and hence save the embarrassment pre-war Nazi officials were experiencing as their wounded torture victims ended up in court.

I don’t think that anyone should be comfortable with using the term ” Enhanced Interrogations” as it is a term previously used by the Gestapo (under the Nazi Regime) to refer to techniques of interrogation that were a form of torture – BUT,  “that would leave no marks”.

It is important to listen to history and learn the lessons.

In Whose Name And For What Purpose? Torture Will Be Revisited By Obama Administration

” A Pale GreenMermaid Blog “

Attorney General Eric Holder has announced the creation of a preliminary investigation into actions taken by the CIA while interrogating prisoners.  John Durham will be appointed special prosecutor.  A series of reports/reviews on the question of torture during the Bush administration held back from public access, some for five years, were released today.

In those reports were treatments of prisoners described below,

Using a gun and a drill to threaten prisoners,

Telling a prisoner that his mother would be sexually abused if he did not cooperate,

A prisoner was told that his children would be killed if he did not cooperate.

A panel will bet set up as well to review in depth how much information was produced by these techniques and how valuable that information was.

If you feel as I do, that the main questions of  in whose name and for what purpose– still need to be answered when it comes to the question of  torture during the Bush administration, then email or write Attorney General Eric Holder and let him know you support his actions.

Clouds Of Disinformation, Fear Mongering, And Threats To The Citizenry By FORMER Vice President Dick Cheney.

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog”

Dick Cheney said today that President Barack Obama set up his National security plan with ” little deliberation and no plan…”

Little deliberation and no plan ? where have I heard that before – lets see… the invasion into IRAQ… BINGO!

Little deliberation and no plan? …where have I heard that before… hmmm, the creation of Guantanamo – BINGO!

Need I go on.  Former Vice President Dick Cheney is looking at  an indictment of war crimes against himself specifically, and he is desperately trying rewrite history and avoid prosecution.

That is the core of what this debating is all about.

Speaker Pelosi and Torture, Republicans Want To Know: What Did She Know, When Did She Know It…I Say What did Bush Know? And When Did He Know it? Same For Cheney. Let’s Get Real People.

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Senator Patrick Leahy ( Judiciary chairman) wants to set in place a truth commission to find out how, why and if, torture was used as an interrogation method by the Bush Administration.

There are many questions to be answered on both sides, so if you want to know, Mr. Republician  Party, then you should welcome with open arms the implementation of a truth commission about the use of torture during the Bush administration tenure.

As Senator Leahy (of Vermont) said ”  We can’t turn the page (on torture ) unless we first read the page.”

Senator Leahy has also offered former Vice President Cheney an opportunity to testify before congress and prove his statements on how torture has helped the fight against terrorism.

Contact Congress and tell them that you want to find out, who knew what, and when they knew it!

( Sounds pretty simple to me)

You Say Tomatoes, I Say Tomatoes, You Say Waterboarding, I Say Torture, Tomatoes, Torture – Let’s Call The Whole Farce Off!

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Let’s look at some historical data concerning the technique of what is referred to in the modern world as, waterboarding.

Waterboarding is a form of torture that consists of immobilizing the victim on his or her back with the head inclined downwards, and then pouring water over the face and into the breathing passages.

By forced suffocation and inhalation of water, the subject experiences drowning and is caused to believe they are about to die.[1] It is considered a form of torture by legal experts,[2][3] politicians, war veterans,[4][5],medical experts in the treatment of torture victims[6][7] , intelligence officials,[8] military judges,[9] and human rights organizations.[10][11]

As early as the Spanish Inquisition it was used for interrogation purposes, to punish and intimidate, and to force confessions.[12]

In contrast to submerging the head face-forward in water, waterboarding precipitates a gag reflex almost immediately.[13] The technique does not inevitably cause lasting physical damage.

It can cause extreme pain, dry drowning, damage to lungs, brain damage from oxygen deprivation, other physical injuries including broken bones due to struggling against restraints, lasting psychological damage or, ultimately, death.[2]

Adverse physical consequences can start manifesting months after the event; psychological effects can last for years.[6]                      FROM WIKIPEDIA

George Washington said in 1775,

“Should any American soldier be so base and infamous as to injure any [prisoner]. . . I do most earnestly enjoin you to bring him to such severe and exemplary punishment as the enormity of the crime may require. Should it extend to death itself, it will not be disproportional to its guilt at such a time and in such a cause… for by such conduct they bring shame, disgrace and ruin to themselves and their country.”

— George Washington, charge to the Northern Expeditionary Force, Sept. 14, 1775

Torture does not work and it is un-american.

Write congress and ask for a full investigation of how and why this technique was legalized by the Bush administration.
