Concerning The Recent Photo Of The Loch Ness Monster, Or as I prefer calling it, NESSIE!

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Here is the pic, in case you have not come across it,

ht loch ness creature inset nt 120814 wblog Scottish Sailor Claims To Have Best Picture Yet Of Loch Ness Monster

If you look at an enlarged view of this foto, as I have, you can see to the right as you look at the foto- a series of wakes poss. from the animal trying to slow down it’s forward progress which is exemplified by the diagonal water patterns, on the left side of the animal.

If you look at the enlarged image you can see through shaded patterns a backbone and the top of a leg muscle on the side of body facing the camera.

Now, I make these assumptions from a cursory review, if the foto could be enlarged, then with the brightness of the foto adjusted it would be evident, or not, as to whether my assessment is accurate.

The foto appears to be a digital image  which is box-like when enlarged, if the foto was a silver foto you could enlarge it and see the light patterns much more clearly (A dot based image).

If someone would do this I believe we could put this puppy to bed! (puppy being -question does the Loch Ness Monster live!)

Anyone???

__

What does “put to bed” mean?

Complete something and either set it aside or send it on to the next step, as in We put the magazine to bed at ten, or They said they’d put the whole project to bed at least a month ago. This expression, transferring nighttime retirement to other kinds of completion, was first applied to a newspaper, where it meant “send to press,” that is, start to print. [Mid-1900s]

UPDATE August 22, 2012,

To reiterate with the new image-

Here is my emphasized image of the one taken, I did not alter the image other than to saturate the color already there and play with the grey scale, the black and white already in the picture,

If you enlarge this foto you will see when I saturated the colors there that the body is a warm reddish color, the very backend is a cool green as in the neck where it enters the water – if you look at the edge of the hump it looks to me like a backbone and it is cool in color as skin over bone is, and near the back there is an indenting of the form where the leg would meet the bulk of the body,
it appears to me as a dense 3-D form-

now look at the water patterns around the form, you can see several wakes coming out from the form in different directions.

To me ,I see wakes that show it was moving forward then was trying to slow down to do something,

let me know what you think!

and above all have some fun with it ! -I feel it is a foto of some animal form ” elementary my dear Watson!”

The Third Rail In This Economic Recovery – Foreclosures!

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Money borrowed by banks at 0 percent from Govt

but banks won’t lend unless 29.99 percent

you are a risk

we need to protect ourselves—

we  alone, are allowed to gamble

take risks with depositer’s money ….. bundle dreams and sell them down the river

make money off fees

short-term payoff,

long-term— — —

empty houses

2 per street

people on the street, their homes sitting empty

communities crumbling

no residents

no revenue

banks won’t re-adjust

even if the government says ” It is a must, that’s why we bailed you out gave you money to lend, gave you money at zip interest! “

we’re not interested they say

the fees are our horn of plenty, our horn of plenty

please lend us more money (Mr. Government, at zip percent )

We will remember you at x-mas time! We promise and big banks always remember…..

This is happening across the United States Of America.

Tomorrow the SOLUTION, it is so easy it makes me cry!

Investigations  –

Very Bad Things Happen When We Depend on the Same People Who Caused the Foreclosure Crisis to Track Its Destruction

There is not a single federal agency that has tracked foreclosures comprehensively, a massive information gap that prevents the work of journalists, advocates and policymakers alike.
August 5, 2012  |

It’s a simple set of questions: “How many foreclosed properties are there in the country? What zip codes are they in? What factors sent people’s homes underwater?” For policy makers, journalists or anyone trying to size up or address the years-old housing crisis, these questions present the natural place to start. But their answers don’t quite exist.
In Chicago, for example, the city’s official vacant property count, which relies on the banks’ reporting, hovers just under 5,000. The Chicago Tribune estimates 18,000. Housing activists say there are well over 100,000.

Fresh Food, The Price Of Vegetables And Bubble up Farmimg

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

What is fresh?  Fresh is when you are standing behind a pickup truck and a farmer releases the latch and everyone dives for the biggest corn cobs  as they tumble and slide down onto the back of the truck.  Fresh is tomatoes in a huge basket being dumped on a cool wooden table under the shining sun – no two tomatoes ever looked alike …..What is fresh? When you  bite into a plum you just bought and the juice spurts and falls down your chin onto your crisp white top!

That’s fresh!

That has been my vegetable buying experience until 5 years ago -the combo of genetic engineering for perfectly shaped fruit at the loss of taste and nutrition and factory farming taking over too many small farms has changed all that.

But last week I found a good stand where yes! they pulled up in a pick up truck as I arrived ! and the peaches are juicy, the corn sweet and tender- as I left the stand 2 workers got their dog ( who just happened to look exactly like my old dog pickle) to bring an ear of corn to me at my car, I looked over and they were leaning against the pickup laughing—that is bubble up farming!

We take control farmers and eaters join hands and complete the cycle of life love and eating!!! So search out the farm in your area and buy directly from him or her ,WE can and will keep the prices down that way, and keep the fun of food alive!!!!!!

Support your local Farmers they are so cool!

Painting Of The Day

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

This painting was the last painting that Raphael painted, the key to the painting are the two little cherubs looking up at the madonna and child with expressions of ?    You decide -but they are the most pensive little angels I ever saw.

Touching painting, out of all Raphael’s work I favor this piece- which goes to show that as a person or an artist or any other profession, you never know when your best work  will arrive so keep plodding everyone— the light around the corner is, almost here.

The Imbibment For the Fourth I just discovered it! Like a lost Egyptian Pyramid…

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Here it is-

3 scoops of mint choc chip ice cream

Douse with tequila (pour over)

take mint leaves pulverize ( throw on top)

dust with cocoa powder

place straw in with spoon and have at it

yumskie!

ooolala!!

Then listen to Frank, Sinatra of course, Summer Winds

Songwriters: MERCER, JOHNNY / MAYER, HENRY / BRADTKE, HANS
The summer wind, came blowin in – from across the sea
It lingered there, so warm and fair – to walk with me
All summer long, we sang a song – and strolled on golden sand
Two sweethearts, and the summer windLike painted kites, those days and nights – went flyin by
The world was new, beneath a blue – umbrella sky
Then softer than, a piper man – one day it called to you
And I lost you, to the summer windThe autumn wind, and the winter wind – have come and gone
And still the days, those lonely days – go on and on
And guess who sighs his lullabies – through nights that never end
My fickle friend, the summer wind

then The Lady Is A Tramp,

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight She like the theatre and never comes late She never bothers with people she hates That’s why the lady is a tramp
Doens’t like crapgames with barons or earls Won’t go to Harlem in ermine and pearls Won’t dish the dirt with the rest of the girls Tha’ts why the lady is a tramp
She like the free fresh wind in her hain, life without care She’s broke and it’s oke Hates California, it’s cold and it’s damp That’s why the lady is a tramp
She gets too hungry to wait for dinner at eight She loves the theatre, but never comes late She’d never bother with people she’d hate That’s why the lady is a tramp
She’ll have no crapgames with sharpies and frogs And she won’t go to Harlem in Lincolns or Fords And she won’t dish the dirt with the rest of the broads That’s why the lady is a tramp
She loves the free fresh wind in her hair Life without care. She’s broke but it’s oke Hates California, it’s so cold and so damp That’s why the lady. that’s why the lady That’s why the lady is a tramp

Now I am off to watch The Mystery of the Egyptian Tomb a Poirot mystery by Agatha Christie

Somewhere In South America,

The plane’s wheels hit the ground with a thud bounced again then skidded to the side and finally rested securely on god’s green earth or should I say mud.

” Nothing like riding the hills and valleys of cloud banks at six in the morning,” Estephan moaned to Kal as he jimmied the small plane’s door.

” At least you didn’t make the mistake of trying to partake of a the free can of tomato juice, ” which now resided discreetly in her lap. ” Grab that bag, I got the backpacks, look…over there Leila’s here already.”

Estephan glanced out the planes window ,coming towards them was a figure walking with such a rhythmic gait she looked as if she were dancing the rumba while she nimbly navigated the runway.

LOTUS BLOSSOM BLUE

This passage is based on two experiences I had with small planes-  one while hitchhiking to the Bahamas after meeting a pilot in a casino in Florida, the other  while island hopping to Key West, small planes are like riding a 67 mustang in the air!

A typical hitchhiker’s gesture

So I was looking for a shop that sold “exotic “filters …

” A Pale Green Mermaid Ruminates “

honestly I have bought 3 filters for this  car each one -not quite right, so I am told, but I was getting closer- like Goldilocks I searched yet again for a filter that was just right…  I was told to go to a ” fast shop” ???   Off I went in search of the fast shop nestled amongst a number of tiny businesses with a street corner ending in a triangle, Grrrrrrr… I finally decided to go in a likely store and take a chance, I walked in and said I don’t think this  the shop I am looking for but…,

the fellow at the desk said after staring for a while  “I don’t think it is either , beautiful women like you never come here.”

I thought to myself , let’s see I am 56 years old age I have more age spots than freckles on my hands and 3 count them 3 scars on my face that -just my luck- are moving and changing color as I age!!!    Oh joy— soon my friends will be calling me Scarface… of course there is the ever prevalent 40 extra lbs that bounce along with me everywhere  I go— as my unconscious mind receded back to the situation at hand , I said-

” Now now,  ” and told the gentlemen what I was looking for, they directed me to make a left make a right and quick left again – I found it, of course, it did not open until 9:30 am. ( I do chores early)

Driving away filterless -once again- I pondered the fleeting chaotic quixotic qualities of beauty and ruminated on what the purpose of it is in life and why is it many times unrecognizable to those who ( others think) have it  …and why, do people soup up cars and why oh, why do they end up in my driveway…

So, I was getting a cup of java at my Fav. cafe…

Mermaids ruminate on the weekend especially, green ones

and I requested my usual mocha, extra whipped cream extra mocha , after being told the amount of buckeroos needed -I placed my twenty on my copy of the NY Times and served it up like a trout deluxe to the astonished cashier- we looked at it , then each other,

I gushed-” I am so sorry, I was just sitting at my local auto repair for approx. 4 hours with no breakfast or coffee hence my appearence here,”  the elderly gentlemen said ,

” That;s nothing , you should see the things I do …”

I walked away to the end of the bar to wait for my joe, thinking —

Wait, wait I am just a geezer-ette in training…  I haven’t yet reached full-fledged geezerdom  ! Sure I have more grey roots than brown, sure I have that one whisker that keeps returning every 6 months, sure I fall asleep around 9pm after making a long list of what I need to do that night but but….

I took my mocha NY Times  and sat down outside, letting the sun beat down on my latest copy of AARP.

(Weekend eating tip- anything pumpkin- pie cheesecake cookies with chocolate mint ice cream and cranberries on top.)

Have  a great weekend!!!

GIVE ME A CLUE

I feel your aura breeze over me

mine, ebbs between your toes, up your back

please don’t give me any flack

are the cards stacked?

The dice loaded?

Will you be true?

I haven’t a clue.

When is a Computer No Longer Just A Computer? When Can a Computer Think Or Feel?

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Google translator is used worldwide as a basic translating system.  By feeding the system’s translator engine with transcripts from the United Nations proceedings and the European parliment, google hopes to create a system that will eventually preceed all other systems in accessibility to languages and communication between the peoples of the world.

  From NY Times Article,

“Google has fed its translation engine with transcripts of United Nations proceedings, which are translated by humans into six languages, and those of the European Parliament, which are translated into 23. This raw material is used to train systems for the most common languages.”

“This technology can make the language barrier go away,” said Franz Och, a principal scientist at Google who leads the company’s machine translation team. “It would allow anyone to communicate with anyone else.”

That is a lofty goal but what if in the process they are creating a  form of intelligence that grows and learns on its own, as indeed it is already doing,

“While many translation systems like Google’s use up to a billion words of text to create a model of a language, Google went much bigger: a few hundred billion English words. “The models become better and better the more text you process,” Mr. Och said.”

“Google has used a similar approach — immense computing power, heaps of data and statistics — to tackle other complex problems. In 2007, for example, it began offering 800-GOOG-411, a free directory assistance service that interprets spoken requests. It allowed Google to collect the voices of millions of people so it could get better at recognizing spoken English.

A year later, Google released a search-by-voice system that was as good as those that took other companies years to build.”

So if this system is getting faster, building quicker interior systems and using language as a base…how long will it take until all those billions of words sentences and essentially discussions of human feelings to form some kind of rudimentary thought processes / consciousness?

Maybe even before those at google realize it has happened…

Any scientists out there?? Let’s chat.

Peace

Excerpts from Article below,  Article from www.nytimes.com

By MIGUEL HELFT
Published: March 8, 2010

Google Translate service handles 52 languages, more than any similar system, and people use it hundreds of millions of times a week to translate Web pages and other text.

The message said Google was a favorite search engine, but the result read: “The sliced raw fish shoes it wishes. Google green onion thing!”

Mr. Brin said Google ought to be able to do better. Six years later, its free

“What you see on Google Translate is state of the art” in computer translations that are not limited to a particular subject area, said Alon Lavie, an associate research professor in the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

Google’s efforts to expand beyond searching the Web have met with mixed success. Its digital books project has been hung up in court, and the introduction of its social network, Buzz, raised privacy fears. The pattern suggests that it can sometimes misstep when it tries to challenge business traditions and cultural conventions.

But Google’s quick rise to the top echelons of the translation business is a reminder of what can happen when Google unleashes its brute-force computing power on complex problems.

The network of data centers that it built for Web searches may now be, when lashed together, the world’s largest computer. Google is using that machine to push the limits on translation technology. Last month, for example, it said it was working to combine its translation tool with image analysis, allowing a person to, say, take a cellphone photo of a menu in German and get an instant English translation.

“Machine translation is one of the best examples that shows Google’s strategic vision,” said Tim O’Reilly, founder and chief executive of the technology publisher O’Reilly Media. “It is not something that anyone else is taking very seriously. But Google understands something about data that nobody else understands, and it is willing to make the investments necessary to tackle these kinds of complex problems ahead of the market.”

Creating a translation machine has long been seen as one of the toughest challenges in artificial intelligence. For decades, computer scientists tried using a rules-based approach — teaching the computer the linguistic rules of two languages and giving it the necessary dictionaries.

But in the mid-1990s, researchers began favoring a so-called statistical approach. They found that if they fed the computer thousands or millions of passages and their human-generated translations, it could learn to make accurate guesses about how to translate new texts.

It turns out that this technique, which requires huge amounts of data and lots of computing horsepower, is right up Google’s alley.

“Our infrastructure is very well-suited to this,” Vic Gundotra, a vice president for engineering at Google, said. “We can take approaches that others can’t even dream of.”

Automated translation systems are far from perfect, and even Google’s will not put human translators out of a job anytime soon. Experts say it is exceedingly difficult for a computer to break a sentence into parts, then translate and reassemble them.

But Google’s service is good enough to convey the essence of a news article, and it has become a quick source for translations for millions of people. “If you need a rough-and-ready translation, it’s the place to go,” said Philip Resnik, a machine translation expert and associate professor of linguistics at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Like its rivals in the field, most notably Microsoft and I.B.M., Google has fed its translation engine with transcripts of United Nations proceedings, which are translated by humans into six languages, and those of the European Parliament, which are translated into 23. This raw material is used to train systems for the most common languages.

But Google has scoured the text of the Web, as well as data from its book scanning project and other sources, to move beyond those languages. For more obscure languages, it has released a “tool kit” that helps users with translations and then adds those texts to its database.

Google’s offering could put a dent in sales of corporate translation software from companies like I.B.M. But automated translation is never likely to be a big moneymaker, at least not by the standards of Google’s advertising business. Still, Google’s efforts could pay off in several ways.

Because Google’s ads are ubiquitous online, anything that makes it easier for people to use the Web benefits the company. And the system could lead to interesting new applications. Last week, the company said it would use speech recognition to generate captions for English-language YouTube videos, which could then be translated into 50 other languages.

“This technology can make the language barrier go away,” said Franz Och, a principal scientist at Google who leads the company’s machine translation team. “It would allow anyone to communicate with anyone else.”

Mr. Och, a German researcher who previously worked at the University of Southern California, said he was initially reluctant to join Google, fearing it would treat translation as a side project. Larry Page, Google’s other founder, called to reassure him.

“He basically said that this is something that is very important for Google,” Mr. Och recalled recently. Mr. Och signed on in 2004 and was soon able to put Mr. Page’s promise to the test.

While many translation systems like Google’s use up to a billion words of text to create a model of a language, Google went much bigger: a few hundred billion English words. “The models become better and better the more text you process,” Mr. Och said.

The effort paid off. A year later, Google won a government-run competition that tests sophisticated translation systems.

Google has used a similar approach — immense computing power, heaps of data and statistics — to tackle other complex problems. In 2007, for example, it began offering 800-GOOG-411, a free directory assistance service that interprets spoken requests. It allowed Google to collect the voices of millions of people so it could get better at recognizing spoken English.

A year later, Google released a search-by-voice system that was as good as those that took other companies years to build.

And late last year, Google introduced a service called Goggles that analyzes cellphone photos, matching them to a database of more than a billion online images, including photos of streets taken for its Street View service.

Mr. Och acknowledged that Google’s translation system still needed improvement, but he said it was getting better fast. “The current quality improvement curve is still pretty steep,” he said.

Song NAKED EYE

Band  LUSCIOUS JACKSON

It’s not a choice I tried to make
It’s not a thought I couldn’t take
Something told me it was time
To give you yours and leave me mine

My vision started to be clear
I watched the sunlight coming near
I knew the day I knew the night
I knew I could regain my sight

And it feels alright
And it feels alright

With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all, I could see

Last night I came into your home
To break some ice and throw some stones
I asked if we could be alone
I had some troubles of my own

Knew I had to say goodbye
To all the old things held inside
If I let the moment fly
I knew they’d all be magnified
And it feels alright
And it feels alright

With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see

With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see

Came around after dark
You are nothing but a lark
Know I snuck in like a narc
I knew I had to leave my mark

Wanted to be satisfied
I tried to be dignified
Wearing nothing is divine
Naked is a state of mind
And it feels alright
And it feels alright

With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see

With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see

It feels alright, it feels alright
It feels alright, it feels alright
It feels alright, it feels alright
It feels alright, it feels alright
It feels alright

POEM

A disgraceful sort of fella
He was a disgraceful sort of fella
egged people on

stood back with a baton

asked them to wait

while he ate

never lifted a finger…

walked away

because he had feet of clay –

and so it ends as it began

while he spends time getting a tan…

He was a disgraceful sort of fella.

PARADOX IN PURPLE SOCKS

My favorite paradox,

Here I sit,

Waiting on,

My paradox,

My bagels and lox,

My little fox,

My favorite paradox,

These poems,

Collecting in a box,

They come and go,

Too many to keep,

Some are lost,

As ,

I,

Wait,

For,

My,

Favorite paradox to appear.

(with bagels and lox!)
