A Flash Serial — Unfettered

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

Somewhere in America……….

She took her arrows and bow and walked outside. Sat down and started writing in her notebook knowing it would draw them in.

Sure enough the sonic rumble could be heard in the distance.  The sound was something like a high-pitched weed wacker in the sky. Just as the drone passed 15 feet above her head she quickly raised her bow aiming for the seam.  It fell to the ground.

She put her bow down and walked over.  It was jumping a bit. She placed a rose-colored boot on the tail.  All you could hear were jumbled voices as a camera lense whirred.  People gathered around and started to clap and laugh bending down to look.

Somewhere across town…..

He walked out his front door.  The grass was hot. It felt like the clouds were wet blankets hanging in the air.  His spitfire was parked in the street. He looked into the sky then hopped into the snug two-seater convertible stick.  He opened up the throttle as he hit the highway.  That’ s when the winds started.

‘ If not for my 6 foot 2 frame I would lift of this concrete highway,’  he thought. The sonic screams started in the east, he could feel them crawl up his back.

He shifted to 7th gear and let the car loose.  The car could do 110, if it felt like it.  He started laughing. Danger always had that effect on him. Two drones flanked his shoulders.  They liked to criss-cross over his head – Why? just, because they could..  He waited for the right moment and did a Rockford, slamming on the brakes while spinning the steering wheel.  The spitfire twirled into a complete reverse.  The two drones over head slammed into one another bursting debris over the empty highway.   He did not look back as he pressed the pedal, to the metal..

Meanwhile over the bridge…..

Crowds sat outside the justice building so thick the steps disappeared their placards thrown into a sloppy pile as they waited.   Inside the lawyer was finishing up his brief….

“The question is, are we going to allow the bulk collection of American citizen’s activities in their own back yards from the sky above through the use of drones or, will we be faithful to the constitution and the fourth amendment.”

He tightened his ponytail sat down and closed his briefcase.

THE END

And what of the Fourth Amendment?

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Fourth Amendment.

That’s the one that guarantees freedom from unfettered government snooping, the one that says government needs probable cause and a warrant before it can search or seize your things.

Freedoms are meant to be used. I thank all the soldiers who fought and sacraficed so much for them.

Rembrandt has displayed the traditional emblem of the Arquebusiers in the painting in a natural way: the girl in yellow dress in the background is carrying the main symbols. She is a kind of mascot herself: the claws of a dead chicken on her belt represent the clauweniers (arquebusiers); the pistol behind the chicken stands for ‘clover’; and, she is holding the militia’s goblet. The man in front of her is wearing a helmet with an oak leaf, a traditional

Jasper Johns grew up in Allendale, South Carolina. Recounting this period in his life, he says, “In the place where I was a child, there were no artists and there was no art, so I really didn’t know what that meant. I think I thought it meant that I would be in a situation different than the one that I was in.”

Remember anyone can make art – can express themselves,
