Gallery Chat Special / A Walk Through King Tut’s Tomb With Howard Carter / Egyptomania

” A Pale Green Mermaid Blog “

In 1923 Howard Carter opened King Tutankhamun’s tomb.  One paper was given the exclusive rights to cover the story. Across the US a fever was created for pictures and stories about the young Egyptian king’s tomb.

Contents bill for The Times advertising the first pictures of the excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamun which were published on January 30, 1923.

The TIMES of London was the sole proprietor of BW photographs, articles and interviews.  Above is a billboard poster announcing the Times  accomplishment.

The silent film industry presented an exotic ideal of egyptian dress in films,

architecture was influenced by the tombs of Egypt particularly the Rosicrucian society,

Why this reminds me of my one and only chance (please excuse my old buzzard drinking at rundown bar diatribe) to climb the pyramid, I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but I still, STILL can’t believe that I chickened out on this one…this one being, there was a trip to Egypt -$500 dollars that’s right and it included  RT airfare hotel breakfast for one week with a quick climb up one of the pyramids that included  a personal guide, idiot ,I WAS AN IDIOT, to pass that up – anyway this story was brought to the surface by the mention of the Rosicrucian society, as to the fact being that, while on a road trip with a friend to California, trying to drive straight out – asap – we ran across, while on one of our many midnight caffeine drenched hurtles no lees than Elvis Presley’s first home, a tiny white house with a white fence, the only thing  spotlighted  in town at midnight, then the next night round the same time we hit, purely by happenstance as we had no plan except speed, a temple of the Rosicrucian society with a SPHINX just about my size, I’m 5’9!/2″, me being me at midnight – stopped the red Toyota stick we were driving and I climbed up and perched myself face to face with The SPHINX!!!  Or at least a replica of it, I can still feel the stone of its hat underneath my fingertips as I waited for this moment to be caught on film… these things happen in the wee hours, anyway,

Egyptomania still exist today as 3,000 year old images make our hearts race and our eyes widen.

Friday Night Gallery Chat /Conceptual Art And Barbara Kruger’s Messages

” A Pale GreenMermaid Blog “

Hey Guys, let us speak of conceptual art tonight, when I was getting my degree in painting /photography Barbara Kruger was all the rage and one of my favorite conceptual photographers.  That was in 1981.  Her work was sparse in color and elements.  It was the simplicity and directness of her statement that attracted me to her work.

Image from wikipedia
I Shop, Therefore I Am

Does this image make you laugh or think?  What do you think the purpose of art is?  Can it have more than one meaning?

Night! Happy shopping…

Much of Kruger’s graphic work consists of black-and-white photographs with overlaid captions set in white-on-red Futura Bold Oblique. The phrases included in her work are usually declarative, and make common use of such pronouns as “you”, “I”, “we”, and “they”. The juxtaposition of Kruger’s imagery with text containing criticism of sexism and the circulation of power within cultures is a recurring motif in the work. In The text in her work of the 1980s includes such phrases as “Your comfort is my silence” (1981), “you invest in the divinity of the masterpiece” (1982), and “I shop therefore I am” (1987).

She has said that “I work with pictures and words because they have the ability to determine who we are and who we aren’t.”  FROM WIKIPEDIA

Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns.

My Chakras

My chakras are in recharge mode.

My chakras are resting in their self-made abode,

My chakras have been carrying a heavy load,

My chakras are waiting to bloom again…

Thanks for reading this poem!

The Seven Major Chakras

Tantric chakras

Tantrai s a religious, philosophical and magical movement in Hinduism

 Sahasrara: The Crown Chakra

Sahasrara is generally considered to be the chakra of pure consciousness. Its role may be envisioned somewhat similarly to that of the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system and also connects to the central nervous system via the hypothalamus. The thalamus is thought to have a key role in the physical basis of consciousness. Symbolized by a lotus with one thousand petals, it is located at the crown of the head. Sahasrara is represented by the colour violet and it involves such issues as inner wisdom and the death of the body. Sahasrara’s inner aspect deals with the release of karma, physical action with meditation, mental action with universal consciousness and unity, and emotional action with “benignness”.[24]

 Ajna: The Brow Chakra

Ajna (along with Bindu, is also known as the third eye chakra) is linked to the pineal gland which may inform a model of its envisioning. The pineal gland is a light sensitive gland that produces the hormone melatonin which regulates sleep and waking up. Ajna is symbolised by a lotus with two petals, and corresponds to the colour white, indigo or deep blue. Ajna’s key issues involve balancing the higher & lower selves and trusting inner guidance. Ajna’s inner aspect relates to the access of intuition. Emotionally, Ajna deals with clarity on an intuitive level.[25](Note: some opine that the pineal and pituitary glands should be exchanged in their relationship to the Crown and Brow chakras, based on the description in Arthur Avalon’s book on kundalini called Serpent Power or empirical research.)

 Vishuddha: The Throat Chakra

Vishuddha (also Vishuddhi) may be understood as relating to communication and growth through expression. This chakra is paralleled to the thyroid, a gland that is also in the throat and which produces thyroid hormone, responsible for growth and maturation. Symbolised by a lotus with sixteen petals. Vishudda is characterized by the color light or pale blue, or turquoise. It governs such issues as self-expression and communication, as discussed above. Physically, Vishuddha governs communication, emotionally it governs independence, mentally it governs fluent thought, and spiritually, it governs a sense of security.[26]

 Anahata: The Heart Chakra

Anahata, or Anahata-puri, or padma-sundara is related to the thymus, located in the chest. The thymus is an element of the immune system as well as being part of the endocrine system. It is the site of maturation of the T cells responsible for fending off disease and may be adversely affected by stress. Anahata is symbolised by a lotus flower with twelve petals. (See also heartmind). Anahata is related to the colours green or pink. Key issues involving Anahata involve complex emotions, compassion, tenderness, unconditional love, equilibrium, rejection and well being. Physically Anahata governs circulation, emotionally it governs unconditional love for the self and others, mentally it governs passion, and spiritually it governs devotion.[27]

 Manipura: The Solar Plexus Chakra

Manipura or manipuraka is related to the metabolic and digestive systems. Manipura is believed to correspond to Islets of Langerhans,[28] which are groups of cells in the pancreas, as well as the outer adrenal glands and the adrenal cortex. These play a valuable role in digestion, the conversion of food matter into energy for the body. Symbolised by a lotus with ten petals. The colour that corresponds to Manipura is yellow. Key issues governed by Manipura are issues of personal power, fear, anxiety, opinion-formation, introversion, and transition from simple or base emotions to complex. Physically, Manipura governs digestion, mentally it governs personal power, emotionally it governs expansiveness, and spiritually, all matters of growth.[29]

 Svadisthana: The Sacral Chakra

Swadhisthana, Svadisthana or adhishthana is located in the sacrum (hence the name) and is considered to correspond to the testes or the ovaries that produce the various sex hormones involved in the reproductive cycle. Svadisthana is also considered to be related to, more generally, the genitourinary system and the adrenals. The Sacral Chakra is symbolized by a lotus with six petals, and corresponds to the colour orange. The key issues involving Svadisthana are relationships, violence, addictions, basic emotional needs, and pleasure. Physically, Svadisthana governs reproduction, mentally it governs creativity, emotionally it governs joy, and spiritually it governs enthusiasm.[30]

 Muladhara: The Base Chakra

Muladhara or root chakra is related to instinct, security, survival and also to basic human potentiality. This centre is located in the region between the genitals and the anus. Although no endocrine organ is placed here, it is said to relate to the gonads and the adrenal medulla, responsible for the fight and flight response when survival is under threat. There is a muscle located in this region that controls ejaculation in the sexual act of the human male. A parallel is charted between the sperm cell and the ovum where the genetic code lies coiled and the kundalini. Muladhara is symbolized by a lotus with four petals and the colour red. Key issues involve sexuality, lust and obsession. Physically, Muladhara governs sexuality, mentally it governs stability, emotionally it governs sensuality, and spiritually it governs a sense of security.[31]Woodroffe also describes 7 head chakras (including Ajna and Sahasrara) in his other Indian text sources. Lowest to highest they are: Talu/Talana/Lalana, Ajna, Manas, Soma, Brahmarandra, Sri (inside Sahasrara), Sahasrara.

Empowerment Tip For The Week / No- Blues Forum

“A Pale Green Mermaids Blog”

Got the blues or  heading into a serious depression well friends try this:

Make up a tape of your fav songs not just ones you like but ones that make you sing out loud and dance ( or at least attempt to, I speak from experience although I think I do cut a pretty good rug, now umm,…where was I?)

And go for a walk or bike ride in the am, this will set the tone for the day- try it you’ll like it.  And it does work.

Here are a few musical leads ,

My current tape has,

“Needle in a Haystack ”  The Velvettes

“Carmen ”  From  Bizet’s opera

Michael Jcakson reggae mix of  “One more chance “

Levon Helm (Of The Band) ” Only Halfway Home”

Firewater “Borneo”

“La Vie En Rose ” Grace Jones version

Kings of Leon  “Use Somebody”

“Delta Lady”  Leon Russell

“You Got Me Smiling(Again)” Sly and The Family Stone

Peter Gabriel  “In Your Eyes”

“Some Kinda Wonderful” Sam and Dave

 “Thirty One Today” Aimee Mann

“Rockabilly Silly” Not sure who sings it is a great song

and so on and so forth-it is a long tape!

(Thanks to Tony Robbins for the seed idea for this tip, Thanks Tony)

Don’t worry about the neighbor’s stare when you dance across the church parking lot on your walk, one way to avoid this is  to leave at  5 am, as I do, kinda quiet then!
