The recent shootings where the shooters had mental struggles and were known to authorities yet did not receive the help and support they needed begs the question of how can we as a society address this issue.
It is not that we need more Social services workers/ Protective Service workers… but fewer– who have the skill level and emotional makeup/stability needed to recognize the problem and offer options to the citizens in trouble.
If Social services is working, the problem should get better for the individual in question after 2 weeks of help, if the problem gets worse that is a sure sign that the worker is aggravating the situation.
The techniques of screaming, threatening, stalking, inciting violence by pitting relatives against each other, taking sides in a domestic dispute, denying citizen’s their right to appeal an assessment and denying due process to citizens- should be outlawed from the repertoire of actions that government workers are allowed to take.
Better yet privatize the counseling that would truly help citizens by letting an org such as Catholic Charities take over this area.
Using techniques that abusers use only escalates a domestic dispute.
In my opinion- Peace
