Beeswax
This term which dates back to the 1930′s is commonly found in the phrase ‘none of your beeswax’. It actually has nothing to do with ‘wax’. It is just an intentional malapropism for business.

The following is a theory sent in by a site visitor:
I just thought I would offer some information. My U.S. History teacher (who
knows thousands of little weird facts about all colonial life) told us that
“Mind your own beeswax” was a phrase used by women in the colonial period.
Women would stand next to the fire stirring wax to make candles together.
They had to be careful not to let the wax or fire burn their huge dresses or
hair. So when someone would comment on the job another was doing, they used
the phrase “mind your own bee’s wax”. Now, mind you, I can’t prove it, but it
seemed legitimate to me and worth a thought ). Anyways, love the site. (I
would love to know where the phrase “wet behind the ears” comes from though;
my friends and I were discussing it the other day) Also, maybe a bigger
“send in meanings/request an idiom” button would be helpful; it took me a

This phrase was coined many centuries ago when women used bees’ wax on
their faces to smooth the skin. If they say too close to the fire,
without the protection of a winged-bakc chair to block the heat from
their faces, the wax would start to melt. At times it would be noticed
that one of the women would be staring at another so she would say,
“mind your own beeswax.” If a woman would smile with bees’ wax on her face it would crack. Hence, the phrase, “to crack a smile.”

Springsteen coming out as we speak

I have a feeling about the Beach Boys album, when you get older and people you admire and friends are passing into that great beyond, you  begin to realize you’d better get out what you have left to say or it will disappear into the star-dust of life.

I think if you don’t say, or do, what you  came here to do in this life, this body, it is gone forever- it is a one shot deal, as it were …my little voice is saying to me, no one is interested in your metaphysical drivel get on with the post !

The Beach Boys is definitely one to watch, after all if a band can create songs that are symphonic vignettes such as I Get Around and Barbara Ann they’ve reached that level where  as a listener you just wait around for that peak in musical  expression to come again.

One Headlight by the Wallflowers is another example of a tiny  rock and roll symphony – rumour has it   Jakob Dylan ( he is such an interesting singer the cadence of his vocals pulls you into the song, I’d like to see Springsteen and he do another duet as they did on MTV) has the songs ready to go and so we await the reunion of Wallflowers.

Mr. Springsteen put out this last week a song and video from his new album, the song is We Take Care Of Our Own which is really a metaphor for the whole foreclosure and banking mess where a few at the top profited and the banks prospered but it’s workers and the citizens of the US and Worldwide suffered.

I like the video the images are an ebullient collage of stone and form I especially like the one of S. leaning against a wall somewhere looking like the geezer he is ( I’m speaking as a fellow geezerette)… it is important to see old faces on old people, he looks great!  ( also it got me dancing!!)

So keep your eyes out for these three musical offerings.

President  Abbas is making a concerted effort to pressure the Israeli government from the outside, to freeze settlement construction and enter into peace talks.  All parties across the globe see the advantage in having the issue of the state of Palestine negotiated and resolved to the point where  a middle east renewal both economically and politically can begin.

This is essential to world peace and I believe that it will spark a movement towards that goal, just as the arab spring has supported President Abbas in his  current quest.

This goal is to everyone’s advantage except,

 the settlers  in Israel who seek land through construction - 

their political allies in Israel who seek to use the issue as a way to retain power

and a few  politicians in the United States who view the ongoing struggle  as a political tool they can use to their advantage in upcoming election season.

So what can the rest of us do to promote this fledgling peace process?

Writing letters,  joining organizations that are supporting peace groups in the middle east, perhaps a mid-east bake sale/ concert / art show ! anything that brings attention to the reality that more people want peace than the status quo.

Politicians can only do so much, after that they need the direct support of the people they govern to achieve difficult goals .

So get out the easy bake oven and start baking!!!

Pecan Pie

!/2 cup sugar

2 tabs flour

1/4 teas salt

2 eggs beaten

1 cup corn syrup

1 teas vanilla

2/3 cups pecans

blend flour sugar salt

add other materials

pour into pie shell

bake 10 min at 450 degrees

then 30 mins at 350 degrees

The Maltese Falcon is a movie of its time I wonder, where are the writers now like those of the 40′s era??? Anyone?  Lots of funny twisting dialog you have to pay attention to get half the dry wit.  The acting is subtle, movingly human and suprisingly profound and it only took 36 days to tape it.

This is a great photograph, and captures that moment of reflecting that is best done in the open in greenery or in my case a garden.  Regular readers of this blog ( If there are any left) have noticed that I have taken an early x-mas vacation, european style-  meaning all of December!

This photo of one of my most fav people, (celebs- peace activist types) portrays exactly what (when I have time) I am currently doing, why you could paste my face on that foto and have  my 2011 portrait…except, instead of the dog It would be a cat ( only the cat is dead ) and I prefer a cactus margarita glass for all my imbibements, and my hair is grey except,  it is still in the skunk streak category so I henna it to a fluffy blondey something or other, unless of course I use an unknown container in the back of my bathroom cabinet, lets call it shade X henna, and then  it becomes a light brunette with beautiful green overtones…  … …too much info ? ??  I think so too, but I am on vacation reflecting and ruminating, as my close pal George is doing in this fabulous photograph!

So pull up a chair, pop a cork and think about how you and I can change this world for the better in 2012, the mayan calendar year of transformations.
