Why?
Because the Republican party has for the first time in the history of this country tied the raising of the debt ceiling ( basically to allow past due bills to be paid) to political maneuvering /discussions.
Even when the debt ceiling is finally raised this country’s sterling AAA sovereign debt rating may be downgraded, which in turn could raise interest rates for all citizens and businesses.
The instability that the republican party has promoted as a political tool is affecting the global stock market.
Write call your congress express your opinions on this crisis,
we the people are the only thing standing between the dream our forefathers dreamt for us
and the looming banana republic the republicans have waiting around the corner.

The newest form of the Boehner Bill, with a balanced budget amendment, will pass the House. Then, Reid and republicans will put forth a cloture before midnight tonight. The compromise will pass the Senate, and the House (with some democratic support after the balanced budget amendment is removed by the Senate) both by midnight, Monday.
