Vietnam welcomes Fatah-Hamas reconciliation deal

Vietnam acclaims a reconciliation deal signed between Fatah and Hamas and reiterates its support for the solidarity and national unification of the Palestinian people.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga made this statement on April 29 while answering reporters’ questions on Vietnam’s response to the preliminary reconciliation deal signed between Fatah and Hamas on April 27.

“Vietnam supports peaceful settlement of the Palestine – Israel conflict based on the relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, towards a comprehensive, fair and sustainable solution, ensuring the legitimate interests of the concerned parties,” she said.

The same spokesman told the that the two sides had reached a deal in principle. …..A reconciliation deal would have implications for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the Palestinian quest for statehood. As points out a deal between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas could imperil peace negotiations with Israel and U.S.
