In this chapter Mr. Mitchell talks about leaving the Senate and that a key to his journey with Ireland was being willing to help when asked to do so by then President Clinton.
Mr Mitchell talks about first seeing the so called Peace line separating Belfast, he reflects on the day the wall might be brought down as it serves no purpose other than exemplifying the conflict.
Good paying jobs, providing for your family, self respect and meaning in ones life - these aspirations are the same the world over. Many times in conflicts para military groups provide these services when the government can’t.
His first trip to Ireland started as a trade mission. He was asked to stay on and work with the citizens of Ireland on future projects. He gladly accepted the offer, he was willing to help even though on his trip he encountered the core of the troubles in Ireland the mistrust, anger and weariness from the long years of conflict.
